Written by the Orkney historian W. S. Hewison, Scapa Flow in War and Peace explores the famous body of water in the Orkney Islands that served as Britain's primary northern naval base during both World Wars.

It details crucial naval milestones, including the assembly of the British Grand Fleet, the dramatic scuttling of the interned German High Seas Fleet in 1919, and the tragic 1939 sinking of HMS Royal Oak by a German U-boat.

Unlike standard military histories, Hewison heavily focuses on the peacetime life of the islands and how the sudden influx of thousands of service personnel transformed the native Orcadian community.

This 1995 book by the late Orkney historian and journalist W. S. Hewison is now out of print, making these rarely available copies for sale. Paperback, 152 pages.
