In 2017 Stromness celebrated 200 years since becoming a Burgh of Barony.
This allowed the town to take control of it's own affairs, establishing a town council and taking as it's motto 'Per Mare' meaning 'by the sea or sustained by the sea'.
To mark the occasion Orkney Natural History Society Museum (Stromness Museum) held an exhibition not only representing the town's history but how Stromness has evolved.
This booklet is the companion to the exhibition and gives a remarkable insight into the town.
