Fatal Passage: The Untold Story of Dr John Rae. In 1854 Rae, the Hudson Bay Company doctor, solved the two great Arctic mysteries of the time: the fate of the doomed Franklin expedition and the location of the last navigable link in the Northwest Passage.
On his return to London he was denied the recognition he so richly deserved. He faced a campaign of denial and vilification led by Lady Jane Franklin, the widow of the lost Sir John Franklin, and Charles Dickens, both of whom were hugely influential in Victorian society.
This richly documented and illustrated work recognises the remarkable achievements of Rae and places him firmly as one of history's most enduring and courageous explorers.
